Lowell Larson, a teacher, coach and administrator, at Central High School in the late 1950s and early 60s was the individual who started wrestling at the school.  Here is what he had to say about the beginning of the program.

"We started the program in 1960 on an intramural basis scrimmaging other schools and performing halftime exhibitions at basketball games.  We borrowed old uniforms from the Northwest School of Agriculture and a large mat cover from Concordia College.  The early incentive was to provide a program for some of the football players who were not in basketball during the winter.  It wasn't difficult to fill the upper weights, but it became obvious that we needed to recruit competitors in the lower weights.  Those early recruits came through appeals made to students in the 9th grade science classes."

There have been only seven head coaches in the history of the program.
