Welcome to the Crookston High School Baseball site!

Baseball has a long, but segmented history at Crookston High School.

The 1911-12 yearbook had this to say. “This season witnessed the first High School Base Ball team, and it was an experiment. With a very late spring, much rain and everything new, the season could not be expected to be a pronounced success. Every odd being overcome, the boys did do some good playing and won some games, tieing Ada when heretofore Ada was champion. We look forward to good results and much enthusiasm next year.”

Even though 1912 is given credit for the first team, games were played as early as 1906 and intermittently after that. Then in 1947, the Minnesota High School League held the first State Baseball Championship. Crookston High School was the Region 8 Champion and participated in that first tournament.

There have been five teams that have advanced to the State Baseball Tournament, with the 1995 entry winning the Class A Title.

1961 Optimist had this to say about the 1960 team: “With eight wins and five losses, the 1960 baseball team, captained by Curt Hannah and Eldon Nelson, went into district play. Beating Warren, 12-6; Goodridge, 2-1; and Thief River Falls, 6-2, the Bucs became District 31 champs. In the first game of Region 8 tournament play, Central downed Roseau, 6-2, and, in a ten-inning game, outplayed Fertile, 6-4, to win the crown and trip to the state tournament in Minneapolis. In the opening game, which Twin City sportwriters declared was ‘the best game played in the history of the tournament,’ Crookston scraped by North St. Paul, 3-0. Defeated by Washburn and Hutchinson, the Pirates placed fourth in the state.”

Be sure to check the "Record Library" for the Baseball Game History, which will have individual game scores and notes. Because baseball is a spring sport with a short season, it have been a difficult task to accumulate and accurate records listing. The information offered here is not accurate.
