Early Childhood Family Education offers a variety of classes for children ages birth through five years and their parents in rooms designed to enhance early learning. The weekly classes are held at Washington School. There are special one-time events throughout the year at various locations in Crookston. Browse through the list of classes and events to see what opportunities your family has to learn and grow together.

 Oh, the Places We'll Go- Mondays 9:30am - 11:00am
Ages birth to Kindergarten Entrance

Mix it up on Mondays and enroll in the ECFE class that is going places! Both parent and child’s needs are met with creative activities and personal growth opportunities. Parents will select their favorite places to visit and explore in Crookston and the surrounding area. Mix up your Mondays and register for this exciting class.

 Mixed Age Magic- Fridays 10:00am - 11:30am
Ages birth to Kindergarten Entrance

This magical class begins in the gym with active playtime using balls, scooters, parachutes, riding toys, and other fun equipment. After gym time, families return to the classroom for circle time with stories and songs. Parents will meet informally to share ideas and discuss topics such as positive discipline strategies, challenging behaviors, food, health and safety tips, and more. Parents learn from each other as they discuss topics that most interest them. During parent education time, the children remain in the classroom to play and explore with each other and the early childhood teacher and classroom aide.

 Books Alive - Fridays 9:00am-10:00am
Ages:  Birth to Kindergarten Entrance

Books Alive encourages pre-literacy skills in young children by engaging them in a new book each week and providing activities that make the book seem to COME ALIVE! Activities include: creative art, science, and sensory exploration, music/rhythm/rhyme and dance, and imaginative play. The class ends with a cooking project, related to the book, which is enjoyed as a snack. New friends and vital early learning will be acquired from this fun class!

 Toddler Time (Second Monday of each month - 5:30pm-6:30pm (Oct-May)
Ages 12-36 Months


Toddlers are on the move and ready for fun! Toddlers and parents are invited to this fun and FREE monthly class. There is time to run and play in the gym as well as explore and interact with friends in the classroom. The class ends with a short circle time with fingertips and familiar action songs. Parents will be able to connect with other parents that share the experience of raising a toddler.

Unplug and Play- 1st & 2nd Tuesday of each Month (5:30pm-6:30pm)  (Oct-May)
Ages:  Birth to Kindergarten Entrance

It’s time to “Unplug and Play!” Get out of the house and have some family fun in the gym at Washington School. A variety of equipment will be available for children and their parents to enjoy and explore together (riding toys, scooters, net games, balls, circle games, etc.). Get up and get going to this fun and exciting FREE ECFE class.

 Pop in and Play - 3rd Saturday of each Month (10:30am-11:30am) (Oct-May)
Ages:  Birth to Kindergarten Entrance

Pop in and play in the gym every third Saturday! You and your child can come and play in the gym using equipment designed for young children. Come expecting to have lots of fun making wonderful memories with your child. This class is free.

 Teen Parenting (Thursdays 3:30pm-5:00pm)

Are you an expectant or new parent and have questions about parenting? This class offers answers to your parenting questions in a comfortable setting. Receive support from experienced staff and meet other parents like yourself. Children stay in the room with their parents and interact with the child educator. Parents will have time with a parent educator to talk about a variety of parenting topics. Topics may include: child safety, child development, baby cares, positive discipline, nutrition, or other topics of interest. Learn and grow together in this informal and informational FREE class.

 Music in Me- 2W Wednesdays (Oct 11, Nov 18, Dec 13, Feb 7, April 11, May 9) (9:00am-10:00 am)
Ages:  3 to Pre-K

An opportunity to explore sound through singing, moving, listening, and playing instruments. There will be a special music guest each month and students will perform at March Musical Madness.
