Early Childhood Screening for Children Ages 3 - 5 years

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth.

Screening is a brief, simple procedure used to identify potential health or developmental problems in infants and young children who may need a health assessment, diagnostic assessment or educational evaluation. Screening in early childhood supports children's readiness for kindergarten and promotes health and development. Screening includes vision and hearing, height and weight, immunization review, large and small muscles, thinking, language and communication skills as well as social and emotional development.

Early Childhood Screening is required for entrance in Minnesota’s public schools or within 30 days of enrollment into kindergarten.  The screening requirement within the first 90 days of attendance (if not done previously) for the following early learning programs: school readinessschool readiness plusvoluntary prekindergarten and early learning scholarships

Early Childhood Screening will take place on January 6th & 7th, 2020.  Contact 281-5078 for more information.

Lunch at Washington School
Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child after the first week of school. If a relative or friend would like to eat with your child, please notify the office with a phone call or by sending a note with your child. All visitors are asked to check into the office. The cost of an adult lunch is $3.90. Click on the "Schedule" button on the left to learn when your child's classroom eats lunch.

Dressing for Winter Weather
Students need to wear a coat, hat, mittens, snow pants and boots each day to school. Mittens need to be nylon or waterproof to provide adequate warmth.

If the outdoor temperature or wind chill exceeds -10 degrees in the morning, the students will report to the gym. Before lunch, students will go outside to the playground for recess. In case of inclement weather, Washington students will be kept inside for noon recess if the wind child is -15 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. If a child has a health problem (such as a cold or earache) which requires him/her to stay indoors, a note MUST be sent or a phone call placed to the office requesting that the student stay in at recess.
