My name is Susan Akerlind, Special Education Teacher here at Highland. I teach Functional Reading, Math, Spelling, English and Functional Daily Living Skills.

Every student at Highland is expected to Read at Home. I am aware that reading every night might not be possible, but every teacher and student will work hard to hold this expectation high. Please encourage your child to read 15 minutes a day. I understand that reading is difficult for some children. Feel free to make adjustments and have someone read to them. Please make sure your child returns their reading minutes to their classroom teachers.

If you are using the RSchool Web Page for assignments you will not find assignments for the Resource Room students because each student has individual assignments based on their IEP goals. If you need information from your child’s classroom teacher, you will find that information on their website.

Resource Room students that have Spelling in my room will bring Spelling words home on Monday. Please practice these words with your child, sign, and have your children return it the next day in their Resource Room Folder Take Home Folder. On Wednesday they will bring home sentences, please review, sign and return. Spelling Tests will be on Thursday. Your student will earn stickers for returning their Spelling words.

Communication is our key to success for the students. Each child will bring home a Take-Home Folder daily, please check this folder for Homework or Important Notes.
